Everyone has a piece of your finances.
We build the whole plan.
Advice-only planning for high-income families and incorporated professionals.
You pay us directly and we never sell products, so the plan works for you and nobody else.
Think of us as your
personal CFO.
A good CFO sits at the table for every major financial decision, sees the whole picture instead of one slice of it, and makes sure the different parts of your financial life are working together instead of against each other.
That's what we do for your household: cashflow, tax strategy, investments, insurance, estate planning, and your long-term goals, all in one clear plan that gets updated as your life changes. We don't sell products or earn commissions, so the only thing we offer is advice that works for you.
Most of our clients arrive with an accountant who keeps them compliant, an advisor or a portfolio that sits somewhere else, and nobody looking at all of it at once, which is the gap we fill, and the place it shows up first is fees. So in your first meeting we put your current fees in dollars over twenty years, live, so you can see what they cost. You pay us directly and we sell no products, which means the only thing we can recommend is what fits your plan.
We do it through the Panorama Way. It starts with what your money is for, because a plan you can't stick to on a hard day isn't a good plan. From there you work with a real person who knows your family, and you build the plan together over 12 months instead of being handed a document.

Big decisions show up fast.
We help you make them with the whole picture.
Money is sitting in your company
You have a large balance inside your corporation and nobody has told you how to pay yourself from it, or what to do with the rest. We build the plan for salary, dividends, and what the company keeps and invests.
A big cash event just landed
You sold a practice, a property, or a business, or you received an inheritance or a large bonus. We model what each choice does to your taxes and your life before anything moves.
You're buying a home or your clinic premises
You want to know what you can comfortably afford, and whether the money should come from you or from the company. We test it against the rest of your plan.
Life just changed
A new baby, a separation, an illness, a layoff, or a loss has made the old plan out of date. We rebuild the road map around your life as it is now.
You're paying for advice you can't explain
You've looked at your statements and can't say what you pay in fees, or what you get for it. We show your fees in dollars over twenty years so you can decide.
You're wondering if you can step back
You don't want to stop working, you want work to be optional, and you'd like to see the date. We build the projection that shows when, and what it takes.
Every one of these comes down to the same question: am I going to be okay? We answer it with your numbers and with what matters to you.
The 1% fee isn't the problem.
Whose side they're on is.
The traditional model isn't built to give you the best advice. It's built to keep your assets under management. A 1% fee sounds small, but it's charged on your whole portfolio, every year, forever, whether your advisor does more work or not. Ours doesn't move with your account balance. It moves with the complexity of your life.
That's ~$149,000 in AUM fees versus ~$93,000 with Panorama's CFO plan, a $56,000 fee gap. And because those saved fees keep compounding at 7%, the difference in your portfolio after 10 years is about $71,000. The chart below shows exactly how it plays out.
Assumes 7% annual gross return, $1,000/month ongoing contributions. AUM fee 1% p.a. Panorama CFO plan fee starts at $600/mo + $2,850 onboarding, increases 5%/yr, capped at $1,500/mo. For illustrative purposes only.
Conflict-free advice.
Real results.
24 five-star Google reviews from high-income families and business owners across BC, AB, and ON, describing what the Panorama Way feels like from the client side.

"His expertise has been invaluable in managing my business's cash flow, budgeting, and long-term financial planning... His unbiased approach to allocation has given me the confidence to make informed decisions."
"We never felt we were being sold a story, everything was very transparent... In just a few months we got our first house without going house poor, and our investments are shaping up well."
Panorama exists because
the old model
failed a family.
Panorama Financial Planning is an advice-only firm for high-income families and incorporated professionals across BC, AB and ON, founded by Jim Pan, CFP.
Most people's experience with "financial advisors" is being swayed to buy products with hidden fees and hidden agenda, instead of receiving personalized advice. That happened to Jim's own family. The lack of transparency led to costly mistakes that stuck with him, which is why the firm was built to work differently.
We don't charge commissions, we don't sell products, and we follow the same method with every family, the Panorama Way, so the advice you receive is in your best interest whether that's ETFs in a discount brokerage or restructuring your corporation.
- Jim Pan, CFP, Founder and Lead Planner: designed the Panorama Way and leads every client relationship today.
- Esther, Client Experience Support: keeps your meetings, documents, and next steps moving so nothing waits on an email.
We're growing carefully, adding planners only when they can deliver the Panorama Way to the same standard.

What does working with Panorama look like?
It starts with you, not your numbers. In your first planning meeting we talk about what money is for in your life, your top values, and what you want the next few years to look like, and we turn that into a short statement of financial purpose that guides every decision after it.
Your plan can be delivered in as little as 30 days, and then you work through each planning area (like taxes, your home, investing, insurance, and retirement) in workshop-style meetings at your pace, with check-ins in between so nothing drifts. Every client goes through the same experience, which we call the Panorama Way, and you always deal with a real person who knows your family.
We have a lot of cash in our corporation. What do we do with it?
You give it a job, and the plan works out which job. We look at how you pay yourself, like salary, dividends, or shareholder loan repayments, alongside what the company keeps and invests, so the money stops sitting idle and you understand why each choice was made.
Do you help with wills and insurance?
We review whether your household has the basics in place and tell you what is missing. That covers wills, powers of attorney, life insurance, and disability cover, and we help you prepare for the conversations with a lawyer and a licensed broker, who draw up the wills and sell the insurance.
What if my partner and I see money differently?
That is common, and it is usually a story about how each of you grew up with money. We start every plan with your values before any numbers, and we model each of your preferred approaches side by side so the disagreement becomes a comparison instead of an argument.
Do you handle cross-border tax or estate planning?
We refer those out to specialists who do them every day. We stay involved as your planner so the specialist's advice fits the rest of your plan.
What's the difference between advice-only and fee-based financial planners in Canada?
Advice-only = we only get paid by you. No commissions, no kickbacks, no quotas.
Fee-based = sounds similar but isn't. These advisors can charge fees AND earn commissions from products they sell you. That's a conflict of interest dressed up in a nice suit.
When you work with an advice-only advisor, you know we're not incentivised to push expensive mutual funds or whole life insurance. We get paid the same whether you invest in low-cost ETFs or high-fee managed products. Most traditional advisors in Canada are either commission-based or fee-based, which is why they'll insist you "need" that segregated fund with a 2.5% MER.
How much does an advice-only financial planner cost in Canada?
Advice-only financial planners in Canada typically charge in one of three ways: an hourly rate (usually $300–$500/hr for one-off questions), a flat project fee for a comprehensive plan (typically $3,000–$7,000), or an ongoing monthly retainer for continuous planning (generally $300–$800/month depending on complexity).
What you won't pay is a percentage of your assets. That's the whole point. A traditional 1% AUM advisor on a $500k portfolio costs you $5,000 a year, every year, regardless of how much work they do or how much your situation changes.
Advice-only fees are transparent, agreed upfront and tied to the work being done, not the size of your portfolio. Want to see how we charge? See our pricing →
Do I need a financial planner if I already make good money?
Depends. Can you honestly answer yes to all of these?
Your RRSP/TFSA/non-reg/corporate accounts are optimized for tax efficiency · You've modelled out your retirement with sequence of returns risk · Your insurance coverage reflects what you need, not what someone sold you · You've done proper estate planning beyond a basic will · You know your effective tax rate and have strategies to lower it · You won't panic-sell during the next 30% correction · You've optimized income splitting if you're incorporated.
If you checked every box, congrats, you probably don't need us. But most high-income professionals we work with are brilliant in their field and just don't have time to become financial planning experts too. They'd rather spend Saturday with their kids than rebalancing portfolios.
I'm incorporated, can an advice-only planner help with corporate tax strategies?
Yes. This is where coordinated planning adds the most value. If you're incorporated in BC, Alberta, or Ontario, you're dealing with: small business deduction thresholds, passive investment income restrictions (the $50k passive income rule), optimal salary vs. dividend mix, when to retain earnings vs. pay yourself, RRSP vs. IPP timing, Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption planning ($1.25M lifetime, use it or lose it), and estate freeze strategies.
We don't prepare your taxes (that's your accountant's job), but we coordinate with them to ensure your financial strategy aligns with smart tax planning. Think of it like this: your accountant handles the CRA filing. We handle the "should you even be doing it this way" strategy. Many incorporated professionals find there is real room to improve how their corporation and personal finances work together, and we quantify that in your plan.
What's the difference between Panorama and using Wealthsimple or a robo-advisor?
Robo-advisors are great at one thing: managing a basic investment portfolio cheaply. They're terrible at: figuring out if you should even be investing or paying down debt first, modelling retirement scenarios based on YOUR life, coordinating investment strategy with tax planning, insurance needs analysis, figuring out if you can afford that $1.5M house in Vancouver, stopping you from making emotional decisions during market volatility, and navigating incorporated professional complexity.
If you have under $100k in assets and straightforward finances, honestly? Robo-advisors are fine. But if you're making $250k+, have corporate accounts, real estate, kids' education to fund, and want someone making sure you're not accidentally overpaying on taxes or leaving gaps in your insurance, that's where actual planning adds value.
Why doesn't Panorama manage investments like other advisors?
Because we'd rather give you better advice than lock you into our platform. Traditional advisors "manage" your investments (often putting you in expensive mutual funds) and charge 1–2% annually. On a $500k portfolio, that's $5,000–$10,000/year whether they talk to you or not.
We don't manage investments because: (1) you don't need us to, modern platforms make it easy, (2) it creates conflicts of interest, (3) it's expensive, you can get portfolio management from robo-advisors for 0.25% or manage it yourself for free. Instead, we help you build a proper Investment Policy Statement outlining the rate of return you need. Spoiler: it's usually way less aggressive than you think.
I'm a high-income earner in my 30s, what should I prioritize first?
The honest answer is that it depends, because a one-size-fits-all roadmap rarely fits a real family. Your priorities depend on whether you're incorporated or T4, your risk tolerance, whether you have high-interest debt, your timeline for major goals, your current tax bracket, and whether you already own property.
That said, here's a general framework: Emergency fund first (3–6 months in a HISA). Then, got high-interest debt? Kill it. Incorporated? Your salary vs. dividend strategy matters more than maxing your RRSP blindly. In a high tax bracket now but expecting lower income later? RRSP might make sense. No insurance yet? Get term life and disability before health issues arise.
What most people get wrong: they follow generic Reddit advice without considering their actual situation. This is exactly why we start with understanding YOUR goals and life, then build a strategy around that.
What's the catch? Why isn't everyone using advice-only advisors?
The honest answer is that most people don't know we exist. The financial industry in Canada is dominated by banks and insurance companies who employ "advisors" that are really salespeople. They have massive marketing budgets and branch networks. Advice-only advisors are a tiny percentage of the industry, we don't have bank backing, we don't earn commissions, so we have less to spend on marketing.
The "catch" is that you have to actively seek us out and pay upfront. For many people, that feels more expensive than "free" advice from their bank, even though they're paying way more through hidden fees.
I already have an accountant, why do I need a financial planner too?
Short answer: because they do completely different things. Your accountant looks backward, they handle what already happened. Tax filing, bookkeeping, making sure you don't get audited. We look forward, investment strategy, retirement projections, insurance planning, whether you should even be structured the way you are.
Think of it like this: your accountant makes sure you file your taxes correctly. We make sure you're not paying more tax than you need to in the first place. For example: your accountant files your corporate taxes. We help you figure out whether you should be taking salary vs. dividends, when to leave money in the corp, how to optimize RRSP timing, whether an IPP makes sense. Then we loop your accountant in to execute it. The best client outcomes happen when we work alongside a solid accountant. We coordinate with them directly so you're not playing telephone.
Can you help with estate planning or do I need a lawyer?
Both. We help with the financial side of estate planning: naming beneficiaries properly, structuring assets to minimize probate fees, ensuring your insurance matches your estate needs, and coordinating with your accountant on tax-efficient estate strategies. But we don't draft wills, powers of attorney, or trusts, that's a lawyer's job.
Think of it as: we figure out WHAT should happen. Your lawyer documents HOW it legally happens. Our ongoing clients also get free access to Willful, an online platform that makes creating your will and POA far less painful than traditional lawyers. It's legit, lawyer-reviewed, and covers most straightforward situations.
